White Elm Bourbon Barrel Stone The Crow Barleywine, 14% ABV. Pours murky reddish-brown, with a one finger off-white head that left no lacing. Nose is toffee, moleasses, and bourbon. Taste follows, some sweetness, slight bitterness, and a little tangy. Excellent mouthfeel, overall outstanding. Not usually a barleywine fan, but I like this.

Medium brown body in the center, but edges are lighter, tan cap. Smell is very bourbon forward with toffee, rustic oak and caramel malt backing. Taste starts the same, but oxidation and some pine cut into the complexion in a non-complementary way with the oak. Feel is warm and seems to get extra boozy in the middle before the barley wave finishes off the warm malts, but honestly stays smooth through all the movement, moderately dry

Mahogany color, fingernail of head.

Smells of wet bourbon barrel, toffee, caramel, piney hops, and slight oxidation.

Flavor is an excellent balance of sweet toffee and piney hops wrapped up in a sweet oak barrel. Reminds me of Central Waters' BBA Barleywine. Sweet, sticky finish with lingering burning hard toffee notes.

Feel is sticky, hot, moderately carbonated, and drying on the finish.

Overall, a really killer barleywine. This one really topped off my night the other night. My buddies enjoyed their glasses of it too. Would have again.
