Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a dark orange red with a quarter finger khaki head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of bock malt, brown bread, dates and a little pumpernickel. Flavor follows, with lightly toasted Munich malt, brown bread, a little rye, dates and raisins. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. An authentic tasting doppelbock with good bock malt and dark fruit flavors A little drier and lighter bodied than others, especially in the finish, but that doesn't affect the overall expected character. A fine domestic take on the style. Always glad to see bock styles, which are uncommon outside imports.

16oz can given to me as a gift by the legendary Chris, approx. a day before it was officially released in either November or December (I forget which), as I was going out of town the next morning. Trucked it to Olympia and back with the idea of sharing it with my brother during Xmas, but never got around to it (there was a LOT of food and booze to get through.
Poured into a Whistle Punk dimpled mug, this was a dark brown color, with a decent sized, khaki colored head. Said head dropped fairly quickly, but never entirely went away, and left a modest but pleasing amount of lace on the sides of the mug.
The aroma reminds me of roasty malts and dark fruits. There's a little bit of a molasses-like sweetness as well.
Mildly sweet, with subtle, bitter notes of dark fruits and toasted bread. Dry, but not overly so. Really well balanced, with just a bit of alcohol heat in the background.
A little more thin than other doppelbocks I've had, but not anywhere near to a point that it's a problem for me.
Compared to some doppelbocks I've had, it's a tad more restrained, especially with regard to sweetness, but that restraint adds to the overall drinkability. I really dig this, and I hope it's one WP returns to in the fall and winter.
