This is the first of several beers from Whistle Punk that woemad sent me as part of a BIF. I guess they must be a pretty good brewery. They already have a win in my book just having an Altbier available. Let’s crack this bad boy open
Pours a clear amber gold with 2 fingers of soapy beige head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves minimal lacing
The nose layers subtle fruity notes over a balanced maltiness. I’m picking up on aromas of dark bread, golden raisin, brown sugar, earthy hops, red grape, cocoa powder, light orange marmalade, and biscuity malt
It’s quite a bit less fruit forward in taste, leaning in a more simplistic grainy direction. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting biscuity malt, toffee, orange marmalade, brown sugar, earthy hops, light honey, and toasted grain. The swallow brings notes of biscuity malt, black tea, earthy hops, orange marmalade, toasted grain, wildflower honey, and burnt sugar
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry with a balanced bitterness
This is good, but it doesn’t feel all too much like an Altbier. It feels closer to a slightly more yeast forward Czech Amber Lager. Regardless, I dig it
