Another BIF beer sent to me by the generous woemad. He sent me quite a few from Whistle Punk, and I enjoyed their Altbier last night. This is quite the turn away from that classic style, but I trust Fred’s choice with this one. Let’s crack it open and find out what it’s all about
Pours a hazy yellow gold with 2 fingers of soapy white head that fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose is very tropical and bright, probably the most NEIPA-like of all the PNW NEIPAs I’ve had so far. I’m picking up on aromas of honeydew melon, peach, mango juice, doughy malt, grassy hops, pineapple juice, lemon zest, and light white pepper
It doesn’t have quite the same tropical punch in taste, but it’s still good overall. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting pineapple juice, bready malt, grassy hops, lemon zest, white pepper, overripe cantaloupe, and light orange juice. The swallow brings notes of orange zest, bready malt, peppery hops, papaya, overripe cantaloupe, mango juice, and light weed
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes neutral and somewhat bitter
Yeah, this is good stuff. It’s not breaking any new ground for the style, but I dig it
