Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: rich dark brown hue that shines ruby when held up to the light. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam; pretty!
Smell: sweet, caramelly, biscuity malt, with a nice layer of smoke laid over the top. The smoke is nice, but the sweet/biscuit character of the malt is less appealing to me.
Taste: rich caramel malt, with less biscuit than the aroma suggested. Again, the smoke is quite reasonable -- smoke is a polarizing flavor -- but this level works for me.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess. I am just a little surprised it's not smoother, given the sweetness.
Overall: not a bad beer at all. Though it is sweet, this is a bock, so that is expected to some degree. Not something I'd drink every day, but it's a nice treat.
