Battle Sets Apple Brandy Barrel And Vanilla

Opaque very dark brown body with a frothy yet thin khaki cap. Huge caramel and vanilla, constant but not overly sweet apple brandy, light oak, barley, molasses, and toffee with a striking dash of cinnamon make up the aromas bouquet. Taste follows suit, but get some caramel apple with vanilla edging that is really top notch, barley tastes as if it were candied, brown sugar, oak, toffee, black strap molasses, and the contrasting cinnamon round out and balance. Barrel candy without cloying, wonderful. Feel has booze but isn't warm foremost, rather smooth and lush, a rich dessert barleywine.

 

Having had the privilege of enjoying a vessel of Bourbon County's Caramella from last release, I craved something else in that style. And here this came along. Well let me tell you, folks - this is a liquid cinnamon bun. Recollection of last week's pour into a gentleman's 4 oz snifter shown a darkened brown hue with modest but appealing head & ring. Scent is cinnamon, nutmeg, apple brandy and vanilla comin' through strong. Taste brings the promise of the nose home, candy apple, cinnamon stickyness, sugar & spice and man is it nice. If there' s a booze burn in there, i wasn't feeling it. The last gulp just goes down with a melancholy mmmm.

Liked both variants in this series, but i think i'd give this one the edge as a nightcap to remember.
