Pours a very pale straw colour and headless. The smell is kinda corny and grainy. The flavour is biscuity with hops in the background and a full bodied mouthfeel (for a light lager). The flavour is the best point, it’s pretty good, but the smell and look are a bit behind

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 17 2021 and served barely chilled.

Pours a relatively clear pale yellow colour, generating half an inch of bubbly, frothy white head that sizzles off in about ninety seconds. The surface is left barren - no lace, collar or cap, only a few wisps of film on the surface. It smells of doughy, bready pale malts and cereal grain, with subtle hints of citrus peel and grassiness.

A well-made light lager - suggestions of lemon peel at the forefront, with clean, bready malts and cereal grain sweetness comprising the bulk of the flavour profile. Hints of apple towards the finish, with more subtle citrus peel and graininess lingering briefly into a crisp, off-dry finish reminiscent of apple skin. Light in body, with moderately low carbonation that softly nudges the surface of the palate; feels smooth and satisfying on the tongue, with fantastic drinkability. It even tastes good after it gets warm... not that I'd recommend deliberately serving it that way.

Final Grade: 3.7, a solid B grade. Light lagers are not a style I gravitate towards, but Four Fathers' take is probably one of the better Ontario craft brewed examples that I've sampled in recent years. Immaculately clean with a lightly citrusy hop character, this is exactly what a craft light beer needs to be, nothing more or less. It's not necessarily something to get excited about, but if you're looking for a quality light lager to pound back this summer, this one is absolutely worth a look.
