for me this was far and away the best beer they had pouring when i was there. its a sturdy porter with a huge roast profile to it, and then a serious adirondack campfire smoke as well. maybe double smoke because there are two smoked malts in here? its certainly robust enough to be a possibility. near black in color but not real heavy on the body, lower in alcohol too, especially for how much flavor there is in here. the smoke isnt acrid like it can be in some, and its not all iodine tasting like some rauch types can be, its clean in the finish, maybe adding a little bitter, but its smooth and not harsh at all, like a quality tobacco burning low. less of the sweet caramel malt middle here, just lots of roast, coffee grinds, soil, this one makes the most sense in terms of place for these guys, and its also easily their most inventive and original brew they have going. i hope this is the direction they settle in to, north country beers with some creativity, that would go over real well up there i reckon. if i went back today this is all i would drink...
