Tangy, spunky and playfully fruity, Calusa's annual charitable release features fruit additions of raspberry and vanilla with a tart ale base.
Pale peach, rusty mauve and with a deep blush hue, Allison '22 takes on the appearance of bellini to the eye. Floating a white sheet of foam, the ale's aromas roll off the rim with a fruit filled scent of red berry and citrus with a twinge of cracker and dough with a wrap of soothing vanilla. Sweeter in taste, the session kicks off with a light pastry foundation with fructose and light berry glaze for a malty upstart.
As the raspberry flavors blossom on the middle palate, so does notions of lemon and lime in a pleasantly tart fruitiness. The raspberries and their associations with cranberry, strawberry and rhubarb quickly take the spotlight and trail into a pleasantly fruit finish equipped with hints of peach and orange. A light and peppery bitterness finishes the session with supple hop balance and tannin.
Medium bodied but still with a sense of lightness, the ale finishes malty-tart with a medium-long linger of berries and a hint of dough. Its a pleasant session that hints toward sour ale that will leave fans of more acidic ale wanting more.
