Crafted with Pilsner and Carafoam malts, this is a light brew with a spicy-citrus hint and a slightly dry and bitter finish. We could go on about its intriguing flavour profile but we don't want to get all beer snobby. We will say it's a little bolder than your average light lager, but only in a good way.

Pours gold and crystal clear, headless. Very sweet on the nose. The taste is grainy, sweet, a bit of corn. Mouthfeel is a tad thin, but overall a nice Kölsch

473 ml can served cold into a tulip. Purchased for around $3 CDN. Review from notes.

Appearance - Clear, pale golden colour with a half finger of white head. Modest retention. some visible carbonation.

Mouthfeel - Grainy. Slightly vegetative. Finishes with a little citrus nose.

Taste - Very grainy with a weird artificial sweetness. Doesn't work for me. Maybe it's an off can.

Mouthfeel - A little coarse with a dry chalky feel. Carbonation is about right.

Overall - Maybe it was a bad can and I'm willing to give a second chance given some good review scores from a few reviewers that have fairly similar tastes, but for me it was thoroughly disappointing and not much better than an AAL.

Im not a big lager guy, but this one is pretty nicely done. Sharp, clear, clean pale yellow. Good sized head that's reasonably long-lived, settling to a full film with just a wee bit of lace along the way. S!ightly flowery, bready nose makes for a pleasant invitation. Smooth drinking, gently hoppy, just enough malt, subtly grainy. Gently bitter to finish. I'm liking this one because it goes so smooth. Evenhanded pleasantness all the way, not excessively bitter to finish like a rough edged lager can be. Well done.

Calls iteself a light lager, but slightly higher that normal abv for the style. However, still pulls it off with grace.

Tallboy can from The Beer Store; coded "0113 16 363 1". My best guess is that the "16 363" is some sort of ordinal date, which would make it Dec 28 2016 - not too long before these started showing up on shelves. But as always, you shouldn't assume that I know what I'm talking about.

Pours a bright, pale golden yellow with brilliant clarity and lots of visible effervescence. An inch of loose, soapy, sparkling white head is seated atop, receding unevenly into a lumpy cap of froth as it simultaneously smears a fine coat of lacing against the interior surface of the glass. Looks good in a pokal. Grainy, crackery pale malts give some light sweetness on the nose, with suggestions of grassy hay and floral hops. Clean aroma.

A straightforward beer, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot - as on the nose, the taste is clean and approachable, with pale malt scaffolding and subtler hop accoutrements. The flavour starts off grainy, with mild doughy, crackery sweetness, leading into a drying, grassy hop finish, with suggestions of lemon pith and hay. Once the hops fade, it's a clean aftertaste. Light in body, with lively carbonation and a crisp, prickly texture that softens over time, going down the hatch without a hitch. Crushable, although the abv is on the high side of "sessionable". I was not expecting much, but this unassuming brew definitely surpassed my expectations.

Final Grade: 3.91, a B+. Frank's No Nonsense Lagered Ale is a well-made brew perfectly suited for weekend pounding - at least, in any situation where weekend pounding would already be expected. In fact, I'm glad I picked up two cans, because I had already finished the first one before I got to the "mouthfeel" part of this review. Lagered ales have literally been popping up in Ontario like dandelions over the last few months, but No Nonsense stands out as an above average one - up there with Lug Tread, Absent Landlord and Tracklayer's. Now I'm suddenly interested in taking a trip down to Windsor to check this place out...
