Just as steep topography is obvious on the map, the enjoyment of this stout is seen on faces of those who drink it! This is a hybrid stout made from English malts and American hops. Bold roast coffee, dark chocolate notes, and a hint of dark fruit can be enjoyed throughout this stout. Wrapped up and balanced with slight hop bitterness and aroma. If a Manley beer is what you are looking for, find it at MAP Brewing on Manley Road!

HOPS: Cascade, Chinook, Centennial

MALT: English Golden Promise, Pale Malt, Oats, Roast, Chocolate

The appearance is very dark. The smell is spactacular with hints of coffee and malts. The taste is good, but I wished that it was more coffee heavy. Overall this was a good beer but some of the other beers available here outshine the stout

a smooth and full bodied obsidian colored stout with a tall tan head and a wonderful little hint of smoke in the finish. one of the better beers i had from these guys, and something a little different overall. its got some oats in it for sure, lots of body, a little starch, and a smoothness that could only come from oats. the dark grain is awesome, it almost entirely skips that sweet middle crystal malt bit so many of these have, and jumps right to the heavy dark roast, with big coffee and charred notes. perhaps a bit of smoked malt in here, maybe that element is something from the process, but i love it. very autumnal and hearty, rich without sweetness, earthy and big, its a great touch to an already solid brew. i like all the body, i love how dry it is, and its pretty bubbly too. this is perfect beer for the chilly montana fall, and aside from the hoppy beers they make here, probably my favorite of all the beers we had here at map. these guys are doing a nice job, and this is some of their best work!

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer served a dark brown nearly pitch black color with a one finger head of cream colored foam. The head fades somewhat quickly to leave some moderate rings of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a roasted malt smell along with a good showing of coffee and a little bit of caramel. Along with these aromas comes a light dark fruit smell of raisin and smells of vanilla and oatmeal.

Taste – The taste begins slightly different then I was expecting from the nose, as there was only a trace of coffee throughout the taste profile. There was however, a rather strong showing of a roasted malt taste, which was strongest at the front with it fading just a bit as the taste advances. Other oat flavors mixed with some vanilla and caramel increase the sweetness of the brew and match nicely the roasted malt tastes of the brew. With a little bit of a dark fruit and chocolate coming at the end, one is left with a rather sweet and roasty taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thinner side for a stout, with a carbonation level that is average to slightly higher. A little less carbonation and a thicker body may have been slightly better for the roasty and sweet flavors of the brew, but overall the feel decent.

Overall – A fairly tasty stout. If only the body was a bit thicker this would be a spot on more moderate abv. stout with a slightly sweeter but balanced taste. Certainly a trier, especially if you are a stout fan.
