Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer is served a dark brown color with a one finger head of cream colored foam. The head has a light level of retention, fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is rather strong of a roasted malt with some notes of chocolate and caramel. Along with these smells comes some aromas of hop, with pine, herb, and a bit of grass all there.
Taste – The taste begins with a roasted malt flavor that is mixed with some flavors of caramel and chocolate. The chocolate and caramel grow stronger and stronger as the taste moves forward with hop flavors then starting to arrive on the tongue. The hop are mainly of a pine and an earthy nature with some light grass mixed in there as well. Toward the end, even more sweetness of molasses as well as some more roastiness and a light nut come to the taste, and at the end, leave one with a moderately roasty, and modestly hopped, slightly sweeter dark flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather thin for a black IPA with a carbonation level that is rather average. The feel is OK, but overall, it’s nothing out of the world as a little more body may have been slightly better.
Overall – An OK dark IPA, but nothing to exciting.
