I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery whilst in Bozeman, Montana for a family vacation. It poured an opaque dark with thin off white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had subtle roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet dark chocolate malt base with vanilla, touch of anise, and roast presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

nice beer, properly oaty and roasted, been too long since i had a beer from these guys, wish i got to montana a little more than i do these days. this is near black in the pint glass under most of an inch of airy light brown head. the nose is deeply roasty and bitter, a coffee note to it, unbrewed but fresh ground beans to me, not sharp or intense at all, but slightly ashy too, a great low end here without a lot of sweeter middle malt distraction, a bit old school in that way, not enough like this anymore. the yeast could be english, the hops seem noble, dark and dreamy, definitely a nice pint for winter time. yummy to drink on too, not as intense as it smells on the roast, not as bitter, but also still without sweeter middle balance which i like, almost irish style in that way. softly bready from the ferment, definite warming coffee notes from the grain too, a subtle raisin thing, tobacco, and high end high cocoa content dark chocolate of the bitter and organic nature, adult chocolate, so good. its relatively fast finishing being on the drier side, maybe a touch thin without a lot of heft, but it sure is drinkable this way. minimally hoppy bit balanced, faint spice to the profile, unifying and concluding this in a real pleasant way. excellent beer, fantastic overall quality, cozy in the dead of winter.

Brought back from Montana in a crowler by 'The Prophet.' Everything I thought it would be since being recommended as a sleeper beer from Montana. Great taste overall and well-made.
