Barrel Aged Sour Red Ale. This beer started out as our annual Christmas Wheat Ale, which is a fantastic red and malty beer in itself. We inoculated the beer with mixed bacterial cultures and placed it in freshly emptied oak red wine barrels for a second round of fermentation and maturation. After a long 30-month nap, the transformation is complete. Enjoy the fruity, spicy and funky aromas followed by the taste of toasted oak, dark fruits and a touch of vanilla. The finish is dry with balanced tannins.

Rindby 16/7 2020. 37,5 cl bottle from Kvickly, Østergade, Middelfart. Transparent label with a rough drawing of a duck in purple.
Pours murky amber with a medium-sized head. Pretty stable. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a sweet fruitiness and a stronger sour odor. Spic notes. Green apples, sour gooseberries with hints of vinegar. Cloves and light odor of vanilla. Sweet cider.
Medium strong carbonation. Thin, oily, lively and tingling texture.
Flavor is intense with a light sweetness followed by a strong acerbic sourness. Aftertaste is sour with a light sweet undercurrent. Lingers for a bit. Dry finish.
Not the classic Christmas beer. Then again they call it an anomaly themselves. But the combination of Christmas spices and sour beer actually works for me.
