solid english ipa here, not enough of these around anymore, its a shame. this is a little hazy, kind of a muted burnt orange color to it, a nice off white head tall and lasting. smells like english yeast, doughy and dusty and a little old worldy, more malt than hops, with a little baked sweetness, some light astringency, caramel, red apple, raisin, and even a lightly salty or brine element. the hops smell herbal but tame, with some mild bitterness as well, good balance, old school. the flavor is good, round and creamy feeling even before i taste it, not as thin as these can sometimes be, the yeast does a lot here, bready for sure, and there is a neat dried fruit layer too. i like the little bit of tang in here, and think it quite authentic. more from the hops in the taste than i could smell, bitter and slightly savory and herbaceous too. there is some residual sweetness here from the malt, a long boiled richness, but there is good balance overall. i like the funky stuff they make in here best, but this was a nice example of a style we dont see enough of.
