so heady, their bottled stuff has been so cool, had to buy this. its a merlot must bottle conditioned mixed culture thing, so rare from these parts i feel like, a reasonably enough priced bottle, they got the conditioning dialed, and this is real clever stuff overall, enjoyable as can be, not too sour to drink the whole large format as a solo mission, even after a robust day of beer consumption! not much color from the grapes, maybe a little pink, but looks more grain than fruit colored to me, a soda looking fizzy head on it, white and fading but popping angrily the whole way, looks like it wants to leap out of the wine glass. nose is brett first, love that, so funky and well developed, appreciate that from these guys now, i missed it in their draft stuff when i was there some time back, definitely a wild and rustic vibe to this, still saison, and even some vinous ferment element, not just the fruity grape part, wow. the flavor is suble on the fruit, mostly fermented dry, but i get the tangy skins, hints of plum and blackberry to it behind the tang and brett brux type profile, close to bone dry, effervescent and even delicate from the bottle treatment, light oak maybe, cedar even, rhubarb and black cherry fruit and tart, wonderful complexity and terroir. my friend joked the label looked cheap and clip art, i disagree but i also dont care, the beer is a banger. wish i got two because this should age super well too...
