Poured from 750ml bottle into glass. No bottling date information found on bottle or on label. Released at the tap room on 6/8/2018.
Deep brown colored body, nearly opaque with just the tiniest of garnet highlights when presented to light. Tan, fizzy head upon pouring quickly dissipates to ring fed by rising bubbles. No lacing.
Aroma of dark roasted malts, and wine barrels, mostly Cabernet. Some lighter Chardonnay notes in the background. Lots of chocolate and hints of dark fruit.
Taste has lots of the sharper Cabernet barrel, leavened with the earthier chocolate. Dark roasted malts form the base of this beer. Not much of the Chardonnay barrel is evident, but it could be included in the lighter sweet/sour taste of the pomegranate. Not bitter.
Medium mouth feel, with lighter carbonation.
An imperial porter gussied up with wine barrel and pomegranate aroma and taste influences. Surely a beer brewing exercise but the result is remarkably well blended. All ingredients work in unison, with tannins, fruit, and chocolate malts all coming together.
