Served out of a crowler I picked up at the brewery, it pours a bright golden yellow with plus haze. The big head had moderate retention and left a lot of gooey lacing that slid away quickly.
I was getting big fat strawberry Starburst notes as soon as I started pouring this one. As I dove in for a bigger sniff, i picked up some peaches and lots of key lime pie.
The taste is tropical up front. Big pineapple and mango notes hit hard but don't last long before giving way to a mildly dank earthy character and a unique sourdough malt profile.
The finish brings a sharp lime flavor and a big kick of barnyard funk. Really unique for a DDH DIPA with powder. All of the HVB DIPAs that I tried have had that strong barnyard presence. It's not a bad change of pace. I wonder if they were using some sort of wild yeast or something.
Alcohol is well-hidden. Mouthfeel is a tad thin for the style. Medium carbonation. Overall a very good DIPA. I've thoroughly enjoyed everything I've tried from HVB
