Hudson Valley Brewery "Incandenza"
16 fl. oz. can coded "DRINK NOW".
Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this? I see it's a sour DIPA, and that it contains lactose, but there's nothing else listed on the label. Fortunately BA has added extra notes: "Sour DIPA w/ raw wheat, flaked & malted oat, milk sugar, tangerine & Zinfandel grape juice; hopped w/ Citra & Azacca." It's poured a murky, dark ruby body which I wasn't expecting. I know it's got grape juice in it but I didn't know how much. Some breweries will list certain ingredients and then you realize it's in there, but there isn't that much of it. That's obviously not the case here! The head is a creamy pink cap of standard size, and it appears to be holding quite well for a sour beer - although I should note that by now I've learned that Hudson Valley doesn't go too acidic with their sours. And this contains lactose as well, so there's that. The aroma is surprisingly limited, but there's a definite red grape juice note, and some mineral. Maybe it will open up a bit as it warms. On to the taste, it's a little vinous, but also citrusy and berry-like. I don't particularly get tangerine, but that's OK. I'm guessing the hops are also a little wasted, but I'm not sure about that because there'd be no way to taste it without them - what I'm saying is that the grape juice is pretty intense and apart from the citrus note that's pretty much all there is. I get the lactose, and it's sweet and tart and nicely balanced. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp yet smooth because of the extra proteins from the wheat and oats. It's a pretty intense beer, and the grape flavor lingers for some time. I wish it was a little more complex but at the same time I understand that sometimes "it is what it is" is good enough.

A: Magenta, blood orange peel. Bubbly, pith colored head.
S: White peach sangria, strawberry wine, slight tobacco, a very good amount of sweetness.
M: Dry, strikes a good balance between sweet aroma and tart taste. Med-light body, sparkling ice pop.
T: Mango-peach, cran-strawberry. Tangerine peel...very tannic...plum skin. Background dried fig and a swinging pendulum between green grape jam and macerated dark cherry, bramblefruit, fennel seed.
