definitely the lesser of the two beers i had in here yesterday behind their excellent brut ipa. this is a saaz hopped kolsch, but the hops taste a little overdone to me, and this ends up not being as crisp and clean as i like in the style as a result. its not overly bitter or anything, but it just doesnt drink all that light, which is an issue for me in the style. looks the part, frothy white head on top of a mostly clear pale base beer, simple looking, almost elegant. there is a flavor in here like hop pellets, not the parts of the saaz that we all like, but the actual green vegetal harshness of the pellets is persistent, almost gives this a light chemical zizzle in the middle, not awful or anything, but it ruins what i usually like in a kolsch. its just not clean. good carbonation and mouthfeel otherwise though, i just wish there wasnt all this hop residual. i like the idea here a lot better than i end up liking the execution, it sacrifices to much of its original identity to the hops.
