this brewery is a toronto offshoot and craft arm of creemore springs, and they are doing some pretty nice beers, at least the couple i had were quite enjoyable. this is a straight ahead porter with a nice almost nitro looking head on it, creamy and lasting, served what seems quite cold from the tap at firkin on king, active and dark brown chocolate syrup colored. there isnt too much roast here, which is smart in a lower alcohol and more subtle take on the style, its plenty earthy and deep, appropriate for the style, more cocoa and natural dark chocolate than dark roasted barley, its subtly complex in that way, some decent grain nuance to this, really hinting at chocolate throughout. there is a mild english sort of tasting ale yeast here too, its clean and its not a leading flavor by any means, but its not a flavorless yeast either, which i found a lot of beers to tend towards in toronto this week. smooth feel too for it not being the richest brew, even a little hop bitterness there at the end to close it down, and nice carbonation. this is a somehow craftier tasting beer to me than just about any of them that i had up at creemore, different types of beer obviously, but its cool they started batch to keep some of the diversity rolling. i enjoyed this one.
