Malty and toasty notes with some fruit. Well balanced with good carbonation. A good example of a Doppelbock

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. Served in a Willi Becher glass. It pours a dark cola with ruby hues. The creamy, ecru-colored head dissipated rapidly. Its smell is subdued but improves as it warms. I detect caramel, raisin, cherry, and a lot of spice. The taste offers rich, earthy caramel malt, along with raisin and other dark fruit. As it warms there are pleasing notes of chocolate and it finishes with a slight hoppy bitterness and a dose of spice. It has all of the flavors I'd expect in a Doppelbock but they're mellow compared with the leaders of the style. The mouth feel is on the thin side with proper carbonation, and the 7.9% ABV gives it good substance. Overall, this is a tasty, smooth, and easy-drinking Doppelbock. Celebrator it's not but I nonetheless enjoyed it on a cool, early Spring Saturday.
