they call this just a dark ale, unspecified, and here on BA we do not have as many dark ale styles to pick from as i thought or hoped for, this is less an american brown and more a european vibe, but its decidedly not an english dark mild or any of the lager options, not sure where this best fits, but its fine beer, a touch astringent and maybe a little more fermentation forward than it needs to be, but thats where its interest comes from, relatively simple, easy drinking for its color, i love the low alcohol, and the flavor profile works well for the fall. not black but deep brown, a little reddish glow with the natural light of the big windows we sat in front of here, short head like all the beers we had were sporting, sudsy rings as it drinks though. the aroma and flavor is very autumnal, fallen leaves, acorns, subtle dark bread and even a little spice character from the yeast, to me almost belgian, but we did have this in a session with three of their different saisons. i get dry cocoa, chestnut, and warm coffee, there is light sweetness here in the middle but its dry and light later, a little thin feeling to me, lacking the body this flavor range seems to want, but i think it plays in a unique style space, brings an almost nutritious feeling range of malt flavors, and seems right on for this time of year, even if it isnt objectively amazing. understated but distinctive too, some more roast as it warms, a pleasant drinker.
