Poured from 500mL bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku. Bottled 10/24/25.
Appearance: rich golden-orange hue with a very light haze and a nice effervescence. It’s a neat color, but lighter than I think of a dubbel as being.
Smell: sweet malt with a “Belgian-ey” aroma of pears and yeast. The malt has a certain degree of biscuitiness, which is not my favorite, but is typical to the style. That said, overall, I like it.
Taste: a nice orachardy pear-and-apple character on top of a malt that’s on the sweet side, even for the style. Some of that biscuitiness from the aroma is there, but it’s toned down. This is actually a pretty decent example of the style.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a nice creaminess.
Overall: this is a pretty darn well-executed dubbel, particularly for an American brewery. One nice thing is that it is not too phenolic, which can be a problem in this style. I don’t love all of the malt characteristics, but like I said, overall this is a solid beer and I’m enjoying it.
