It might be part of their Scavenger Series, but the Mile Wide brerwers sure didn't have to scavenge for hops. They dumped copious amounts of the newest varieties on the market into their west coast-style IPA that showcases hop aroma, flavor and bitterness to their peak.
Golden amber and casting a mild haze, Army Had a Half Day sheds a citrusy, tropical and floral fragrance. Its taste is supple in sweetness coating the front of the tongue with mild caramel, honey, graham cracker and sun kissed grains.
Rolling across the palate, the sweetness rapidly releases and the onslaught of hops begin. Radiant pink grapefruit, pineapple, passionfruit and nectarine all sooth the tastebuds with a succulent, peak of freshness fruit taste that's juicy and nearly tangy. Its gripping bitterness grows in the finish as those classic west coast bitter flavors tighten with pine resins, citrus pith and an overall fresh grassy bite.
Medium bodied and drying the further into the session, the beer's early sweetness quickly develops into a dry, crisp and clean bitterness with only a light starchiness of malt left in support of the hops. Light alcohol spice accelereates the bitterness as that grassy, citrusy, piney taste lingers deep in aftertaste.
