Oozing with the robust radiance of blueberries, the quiet and silent sour ale of Mild Wide slathers their sour ale with the fruit for a succulent session with a tantalizing tang.
The Blueberry Quiet Silence pours from the can with a strikingly deep and hazy mauve. Carrying a visual density from the enormity of fruit, the ale crowns with a zesty tarnish pink froth. Sharp aromas of cider, rose wine and citrus pierce the nose before rounding out with the robust succulence of unmistakable blueberries and a subtle drift of dry oak and a faint cellar-like mustiness. Its taste is juicy, taffy-like and layered on a bed of sourdough.
As the ale washes over the middle palate, it loses its must and the bulk of its malty sweetness. But the blueberries persist and intensify in its depth of dark fruit flavor. Not to be outdone, the underlying sourness of the ale supports the blueberries with the acidity of green apple, sour grape, wine and a host of under ripened berries. Hints of lime and yuzu come into play as the ale tightens its sour grip.
Light bitterness and a more peppery sensation comes from the skins and seeds of the copious berry additions. Medium bodied for sour ale but trending both juicy and dry, the more winey components come out and play in the finish and shortly beyond. A return of woodsy earthiness seems of burlap and balsa in a gentle linger of blueberry juices.
