In full retaliation for making IPA smooth, balanced, richer and juicy, the West Coast IPA doubles down in a drier, more bitter, more effervescent way to re-exert the dominance of bitter IPA. Mile Wide Beer does just that in "Brut" style that's borrowed from the world of bubbly wines.

Pale gold and breaming with carbonation, a fluffy ivory froth pushes a host of spicy, citrusy, vegetal and vinous scents that swirl above a reasonable hazy body. Scant sweetness glosses over the tongue with very mild wafer, faint honey and fleeting taste of cereal.

Nearly militant carbonation ushers the malt from the middle palate while highlighting the hop flavors. White grapefruit, under ripened orange, lemon, apple and white grape fuel a fruity, citrusy and tangy taste before a final charge of grassy, stemmy, leafy bitterness carries a strong pine and botanical gin quality.

Medium light and quickly favoring a dry finish, the after palate is arid while only allowing a long and strong extension of vegetal bitterness to shine on. Fans of bitter beer will covet this Brut IPA but without much malt support, the light astringency from hops have nothing hide behind. It's a raw, rustic and somewhat naked way to view IPA.

pours a crystal clear champagne yellow, lots of little bubbles, very thin white head that dissipates quickly.
smell is big mango and papaya, light citrus bitterness in the background. Very aromatic
taste is pineapple and melon and appropriately drops off into a light crisp bitter that reminds me of a good pilsner.
mouthfeel seems pretty righteous for the style, very light, very dry, leaves next to nothing on the tongue.
Overall one of the better examples of the style i've had so far. Like it better out of the can than I did on tap and I thought it was pretty good on tap.
