Green, tropical and cast in the same haze as much of the hopscape, Mile Wide Beer rolls out with a production IPA that celebrates Calypso and Mosaic hops for a blend of fruit and herb atop a pastry balance.
Bready and golden to the eye, Lansdowne pours with the appearance of yeast slurry before crowning with a creamy ivory froth. Its doughy scent rolls in a green and tropical medley from the hops with a vegetal spice heading into taste. Peeling away from its neon green scent, its taste leads with a doughy pastry taste with hints of cashew, honey and very light caramel mixed in.
But then the hops branch out on the middle palate, the focus shifts from the bready sweetness of malt and toward a tropical taste of under ripened mango, gooseberry, papaya and passionfruit. A turn to white grapefruit and tangy oranges open the door to a lime flavor late on the palate. Herbal and of green tea, chive and hemp, the spice finish comes with a radiant green sassafras afterglow.
Medium bodied and trying to offer a sense of dryness, bitterness and refreshment, Lansdowne is a moderate but sound New England styled IPA with two distinctive hop varieties that allows this hazy beer to stand out from the rest.
