Throwing back to a yester-year of IPA making, the Mile Wide brewing team honors a specific place in Louisville with the hops of Centennial, Chinook, Columbus and Simcoe.
Rocking on like a rock star, Big Rock pours a slightly bronze stained haze with a fluffy, frothy, off-white cap. As a general citrusy, piney and herbal scent begins to mount, a gentle sweetness of caramel, nutty and honey forms an impression of granola on the early palate.
As the flavors roll along the middle of the tongue, the sweetness turns nutty and slightly grainy before handing the reigns over to the hops. Sharp flavors of white grapefruit, orange peels and lemon rind work through and more rugged taste of pine resins, pepper and grassiness. Bitter on the finish, a final taste of hemp and hay round out the flavors with a hint of maltiness left in support.
Medium light in body, Big Rock is fueled by assertive carbonation that keeps the body light and creamy while highlighting the beer's hop spice first and foremost. A finish of pepper and pine lingers long and sharp on the after palate with hints of gin-like spice providing an alcohol presence in the end.
