Peanut Butter Porter
Kyle and Will brewed Gif with lactose sugar for an added creaminess and sweetness. If you haven't been paying attention, this is the Mile Wide's first peanut butter beer. So, enjoy another evolution of our brewery as we continue to grow!

16 ounce can, no dating that I could find on it. Thanks to my friend Denis for picking this up for me recently! Served in a Mile Wide pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with a couple inch frothy tan head that stuck around for a while. There's also a decent amount of lacing. The brew smells like burnt/charred malt, coffee and some peanut butter. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also the addition of some bittersweet chocolate, cream and dark bready flavors. Peanut butter isn't strong in either the taste or aroma, but still noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's easy enough to drink with a good amount of carbonation. I thought this was a nice roasty porter, but I was hoping for more peanut butter/nutty flavor in this. I'll have to try a different batch of this in the future.

Is it Gif or is it Jif? Playing on trendy topics and trendy terms, Mile Wide Beer Co. decided to make a play on beer flavors as well. Laced with peanut butter and milk sugars, their full bodied porter sees a new and exciting spin.
Very dark brown and shedding a loose and dissolving froth, Gif porter greets the nose with coffee, chocolate, nuttiness and light cream. Robust on the early palate, a sweeter tone of dark chocolate, caramel and light toffee supports the more earthy tones fairly well.
As the flavors roll along the middle palate, the taste of peanut butter begins to come together. Much more roasty, toasty and earthy than peanut buttercup treats, the bitter coffee, light cocoa and slim smokiness sides with the porter more than its additions. A twinge of tartness follows up with a subtle suggestion of aspartame.
Medium full on the palate, the beer's late charge toward dryness accents the alcohol and hops for a somberly drinkable session and a long aftertaste of campfire, cocoa and coffee once more. Overall, a roast derived astringency plagues the mouthfeel as the palate eventually wants more of the candy influence to come through.
