Taking another request, the hoppy D.J. of Mile wide spins a Samba tune in its rotator Pale Ale series. With the promise of tropical, stone fruit and an overall candied fruit sensation, that's all just music to the tastebuds.
Pouring the fairly standard golden amber hue and capped with an ivory stained froth, DJ Roomba, the Samba edition rounds the nose with a medley of citrus, light tropcal fruit and a pleasant herbal, tea-like scent. With its first taste, the malts open up with a cashew, granola and kiss of honey character.
As the hops gain further control of the taste, the full character of Samba takes hold. A racy citrus tone seems lemony at first before developing a tangy orange flavor, and eventually developing mango, pineapple and apricot character as the hoppy middle palate winds down. Its peppery and herbal finish is that of sun tea, verbena and a soft cedar-like woodsiness.
Medium bodied and trending drier as the session endures, the hop forward Pale Ale finishes crisp, clean and quite refreshing. Although this single-hop beer shows its one-dimensional character at times, it does show its promise as it is similar to both Azacca and El Dorado hop varieties and might make a great complement to these hops in a not single-hop manner.
