Deep color accented by the bright white frothy head. Nose is typical beer smell, not much more. Taste is sort of bready with a nice bitter backbite. Quickly the bite and flavor disappears as the dryness takes over. Good beer.

Always tinkering with what's new to their lineup, Mile Wide brewers revise their Batch 001 with some tricks and tools learned with making more hazy IPA. The addition of Amarillo hops give Batch 002 a whole new identity.

R&D IPA Batch 002 kicks off with a medium golden-orange hue and a creamy cotton-white froth. In appetizing fashion, the acute fragrance of citrus with hints of tropical, herbal and grassy character lure the nose. A general creamy sweetness is partly of cereal but then partly of honey, light caramel and nuttiness as well.

As the hops quickly take command of the middle palate, the malts recede to a supporting role. A bold taste of pink grapefruit, orange peel and dried pineapple bring a sharper edge to a fruity taste. As a grassier and more pungent character takes hold, the late palate prefers a more traditional type of bitterness that circulates around peppery pine, fresh-cut grass and an earthen mossy character.

With the bitterness becoming moderate in finish, the beer otherwise closes with a peppery, earthy and rustic west-coast demeanor with a medium long aftertaste of vegetation, freshly shaved pine and a mild hop-derived astringency to assist a drying palate in hopes of a more refreshing taste.
