Fueled with the common collection of Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado hops, Mile Wide brewing sets their sites on New England and their hazy ways of making beer.
Centauri pours with the expected foggy taupe with a slightly muddy appearance. While a foamy tarnish ivory cap forms on the rim, an overflow aroma of citrus, tropical fruit, herb, grasses and dank botanicals start to roll onto the nose. Cereal sweetness kicks off the flavors as grain sugars, starches, honey and dough coat the early palate.
As the hoppy ale teases the middle palate with fruit, the more over-ripened impressions of tangerine, red grapefruit and lime provide a citrusy complement while a more tropical blend of pineapple, passionfruit, mango and papaya do the same. With a nod to black tea, spruce and wet grass frame a spicy and smooth bitterness, the session closes with geranium, chive and hemp.
Medium-full on the palate, the ale finishes slightly on the bitter side of bitter-sweet with a medium long extension of muddled fruit peels, dank grasses and botanical earhtiness. Its dirty hop profile detracts from the fruit impressions slightly but those wanting a more herbal take on the hazy style will certainly find more favor.
