Testing the waters of sour ale, Mile Wide Brewing tries to scare off the mad science of vanilla in sour ale, but the additions of raspberry and peach rescue this experiment with tartness, dryness and refreshment despite the vanilla's best attempts at smoothness.
The Snuffy version of Quiet Science concocts a pale and peachy rouge hue cast in a mild pectin haze and thwarting a short and spritzy froth. As a tangy fruit scent of berry, stone fruit, citrus, tropical and cidery character tease the nose, a vinous tone takes place. A gentle sweetness of taffy, rollup and sourdough kiss the palate in a supple malty taste.
As the sourness grazes the middle palate, the sweetness is uprooted by sourness as the underlying flavors of green apple, lime, lemon and gooseberry before the current of raspberry and peach additions start to dominate the flavor spread. Trending acidic, sharp and only lightly balanced by the prospect of vanilla, the balance is acutely tart.
Medium bodied for sour ale, but light overall, the session finishes winey, dry and crisp with thirst quenching acidity washing the late palate with a clean, fruity and short after palate.
