There's probably not a more overlooked spring style of beer than dopplebock. But the style is in good hands with Mile Wide Brewing.
Dark brown and showing deep garnet low-lights, Redecorator piques the interest of the senses as a malty, toasty, savory and dark fruit scent hovers over its stubborn foam. The first sip invites flavors of sorghum, caramel, toffee, molasses and cola to align on the tongue.
As its malty sweet tone is set, the middle palate reels in the complexities of bread crust, light coffee, cocoa and peppery earthiness with a mild raisin-like ester. As the session evolves, the lager shies away from barleywine texture, and favors a surprisingly soft and dry mouthfeel nearing finish.
Finishing modestly bitter with broad woodsiness, the otherwise sweeter beer finishes malty-sweet with a drying edge that allows for a dangerously drinkable sensation and a long, warm, cola afterglow.
