The latest iteration of our ongoing kettle sour series was made in collaboration with our friends at Warner Farm in Sunderland. 1000 lbs of strawberries were picked, processed, and put into the beer - all within 24 hours. This batch is similar to recent versions of Leitmotif in that the focus was put on dry, tart and bright characteristics. The fresh strawberries used contribute a rosy pink hue and a distinct strawberry flavor and aroma.

really great strawberry character to this, its amazingly natural to me, not forced or candied like it so often is in beer, but there isnt a ton going on here beyond that, its cleaner than i thought, i figured it might be more wild for some reason, but its a clean front end bacterial sour to my palate, not overly acidic, juicy with the strawberries, and without a ton of grain character, funk, or contribution from the other yeast. pink hued and a little hazy, smells a little tart and wild, it makes my mouth water more than say a normal berliner, but that might just the a product of all the fresh strawberry in here. a little brine character to the acidity, a little lemon, and lots of natural sugar in the middle of this from the strawberry, not so heavy in the finish, but very sweet in the middle. i get a little crackery white wheat behind it, and a sharpness to the lacto for a second, cleaner and more delicate as it moves along. overall a pretty cool beer, a nice use of the strawberries for sure, and there are a ton of them in here. more wild character would improve this i think and give it some needed complexity, but its real enjoyable stuff as it is too...

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a glazed copper color with a small white semi-foamy head that quickly slid off to leave no lace.
The aroma takes the sweet and the tart strawberry fullness to delve into a light funk, sly cheese, smooth soothing cleaned basement brassiness and a soothing sweet freshly cut grass with a delicate Summer's rain gently behind it. Weird, did they really do that? Honest to God, it's not even raining outside right now, so I got that Summer rain from the beer.
The flavor gently yields to the meshing of the sweet to tart to delicate funky cheese. Strawberries, honestly, really take the lead all throughout this beer. Dry tart and sweet strawberry and light funk in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied, perhaps just shy of it and has a fairly decent sessionability. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Good level of sour features prick my tongue just enough. Enjoyable strawberry tart and sweet finish.
Overall, another knockout sour by one of my favorite Massachusetts brewers. Of course, I'd have this again.
