Thanks to JLindros for swinging through the brewery to grab a few bottles two months or so back. Bottle #43.
A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice dark cola hue with a two finger off white slightly brown head that fades to leave very light lacing but a nice thin blanket.
S - Aromas of light oak and vanilla, decent amount of smoke lingering in the background. A surprising amount of buttery oak going on here, sweet caramel and a little bit of dark fruits. That buttery smoky note...not really digging that.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with nice vanilla and oaky barrels. Thick caramel and butterscotch. nice whiskey soaked dark fruit. Taste isn't aggressively smokey which is nice, however, it's there on the finish lingering more and more with each sip.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, creamy, alcohol hidden quite nicely.
O - Overall this was solid enough scotch ale. Lovely base beer but I'm not a big fan of the level of smoke on the nose or in the back of the palate. Doesn't drink hot, however, the alcohol definitely sneaks up on you pretty good. Still though, this bottle isn't up to the level of Swordfish.

Draft at the brewery
Light fizzy head, some bubbles retain but not much, no lacing but decent legs, dark hazy mahogany brown colour
Nose big barrel, buttery oak, little vanilla and spices, sweet scotch whiskey, mild background Smokey, then base malts, sweet caramel, toffee, little butterscotch, dark fruits, fig raisin plum
Taste sweet scotch ale, butterscotch, toffee, caramel, nutty mild biscuity, more dark fruits, plug fig date etc, warming tingly perfumey alcohol, almost fusel, moderate spicy earthy hops, fair bitterness, nice barrel, buttery vanilla oak, mild barrel spices, sweet scotch and hint of Smokey note, finishes sticky mild sweet, fair bitterness, more perfume alcohol and mild spicy phenol notes
Mouth medium to full bodied, hot tingly alcohol, carbonation a little low
Overall an interesting fun beer, good base scotch wee heavy butt a little boozy, nice malt derived fruits, good interesting scotch barrel, fun beer but doesn't get to the level of swordfish
