Weird Flex (But OK) is our Pink Boots Society: Boston Chapter collaboration beer! This Tropical Brett IPA is brewed with Tropical IPA yeast and conditioned with Brettanomyces. It's double dry hopped with Azacca and the Pink Boots Hop Blend. Flavors of pineapple and white peaches dominate for a super juicy IPA and a light dry finish.

Thanks to JLindros for hooking me up with a bottle of this.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice crystal clear, well slight chill haze, golden hue with a fat two finger white head that billows out from the pour. There is a TON of effervescence going on in the glass which keeps the head reinforced, which is nice, but that is definitely going to wind up costing the mouthfeel.

S - Aromas of crackers and toasted bread along with some surprisingly light brett funk. Subtle lemon and citrus zest, heavy swirls bring out some generic soft pineapple notes, though as it warms I do get a bit of stone fruit.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with more of the cracker flavour. the brett notes flash in pleasantly staying a little funky and a decent balance of yeast to tropical elements. Almost some mild saison yeast elements as well. Flashes of generic pineapple after the brett transition, which never actually gets that funky. What it does do though is get unpleasantly astringent and dry while trending towards bitter. Almost a little gritty. As it warms it gets even drier and the tropical flavour fades. Like a bone dry brut or cider. Quite off putting.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, little crisp, body is on the lighter side though.

O - Overall this was a rather disappointing beer. The appearance was solid but that was about it. Tons of potential with the use of Azacca and Brett C but never comes close to living up to what it could. You know, for just once I'd like a Massachusetts Pink Boots collab beer to be worth purchasing in the first place. Every single time they just come across as hodgepodge, slapped together messes of beers...something that shouldn't happen given input that they should be getting from the actual brewers who run the brewery. It's a good cause for sure but time after time after time the beers come across as purely trying to ride the Pink Boot name instead of actually creating a decent beer. Weird business model but ok.

Weird name, but OK... I really hope this is as good as the original Ithaca Superfriends.
Pours a med frothy bubbly almost 1 finger head with med retention, nice soapy lacing, hazy borderline cloudy med-dark orange color

Nose brings some nice citrus and a little tropical, a touch of Brett funk in the background, plenty of pineapple, some peachy stone fruit, a little mango and generic citrus, light sweet malt character

Taste brings mild sweet malt a little cracker, fair hop profile with more tropical and citrus, little orange tangerine, into mild stone fruit but more on the aprricot side, fair tropical with pineapple, a little mango, not much for funk, maybe a touch of funk in the background but not more than like a mild saison yeast, no real Brett-like funk, but it does dry the finish quite a bit, to the point where it starts to become astringent, lighter bitterness up front, med-light on the finish, very dry finish, a bit gritty and astringent, not much lingering

Mouth is med bod, med-high foamy carb, only a hint of alcohol, astringent finish

Overall eh, as a basic IPA it's OK, nice tropical and citrus, but lack of actual Brett funk was a little iffy, and the only thing it really did was dry the crap out of it and make it astringent, and I've gotten the Brett C from Omega before and it was fantastic, so not sure what happened here.
