[Bottled on unknown]

Appearance: Pours a tan three-finger head. Virtually no lacing. Color is very, very dark red, practically black. A beautiful ruby color when held up to a bright light though.

Smell: No pleasantries with this smell! Reminds me of the ocean air out on a fishing boat in Boston harbor…not the first body of water one thinks of when relaxing by the ocean but it brings me memories of home lol

Taste: Forward notes of toffee, chocolate and hints of roasted nuts. Finishes with a slightly bitter bakers chocolate. Good!

Mouthfeel: Really smooth. Like silk on the tongue.

Overall: I didn’t know what to expect from this as I’m not sure I’ve ever had a German Style Strong Lager before. It was enjoyable and I would buy it again although I’m not sure I’d drink it in the warmer months. Seems more like a fall/winter brew for me.

Pours a tan to off-white med-small foamy head with med retention, a bit of lacing, darker mahogany to chestnut brown color

Nose brings nice toasted brown malts, biscuity toffee, a little nutty, rich bread crust, a little caramelized honey cake, a bit of baking spice, faint malt-derived fruit

Taste starts off with the rich brown malts and bread crust again, and a little more of that caramelized Brioche honey cake thing, a bit of a biscuity toffee and a little caramelized brown sugar, no fruit esters, a bit of herbal hop bitterness, general sweetness that hints of molasses like syrup but doesn't, mild sticky finish and a bit sweet, rich malts sweetness and a bit of Maillard caramelization lingering with a bit more hop character

Mouth is med to fuller bod, med foamy carb, that nice bock fullness

Overall pretty well done Dunkles Bock, as expected for Exhibit-A, not a ton of malt-derived fruity esters but that's OK, the rich brown malts, bready notes, and Maillard notes were quite nice, with that bock feel to it
