355 mL can from the LCBO, included in an Anderson IPA mixed pack. Dated Jul 30 2025, listed at 7.1% and served barely chilled.
Pours a lightly fogged golden-yellow colour, its complexion clouded up by countless bits of silty sediment. An inch of bubbly, soapy white head melts away within two minutes' time, replaced with a frothy collar surrounding a sudsy cap; several swaths of snaking lace are also left in its wake. Unremarkable aroma of indeterminate citrus, stone fruit and floral, grassy hops.
The flavour profile is approachable early on, though it does finish quite bitter. Grains and doughy, bready malts give way to citrusy hop flavours: grapefruit stands out, though there are also hints of melon, apricot and orange peel. Herbal, grassy hops and an earthy, resiny bitterness crop up on the back end, preceding a mildly citrusy, bittersweet aftertaste with lingering resin. Medium in body, with middling carbonation that softly agitates the surface of the tongue; smooth mouthfeel. Above average drinkability for the style, which is likely related to its conservative abv.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B grade. I don't think Anderson's 2xIPA is an especially creative or memorable DIPA, but it's at least a serviceable effort. There are no specific flaws that I can really point to, aside from its total lack of distinctive features - this is a boilerplate, paint-by-numbers IPA that is easy enough to drink, but lacks any compelling features that would make me want to do so again. Relatively disappointing overall - I'd prefer Anderson's flagship IPA over this, and their 3xIPA is also a better option.
