355 mL can, day 2 of the 2022 Toronto Brewing beer advent calendar; dated Oct 5 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear, sunny pale golden-yellow colour with very fine sediment throughout its body; gathered atop is one finger of tight, foamy white head that settles within a few minutes. It leaves behind a wavering drape of lacing, as well as a patchy, filmy cap surrounded by a sudsy collar - looks normal to me. Subtle orange peel/pith and floral hops on the nose, with hints of grain, underripe peach, coconut and fresh mint.
Fruitier than your average pilsner, which is to be expected given its theme. I'm getting orange pulp and grainy pale malt sweetness, with hints of stone fruit and cantaloupe giving way to a more floral, resiny hop bitterness on the back end. Faint suggestions of coconut and citrus pith dissipate into a mildly fruity aftertaste that trends off-dry. Light in body, with assertive carbonation that lends a proper bite to this pilsner's smooth, relatively slick mouthfeel. A very crushable lager - I could easily plow through a bunch of these on a Saturday night.
Final Grade: 3.97, a rock solid B+. Anderson's West Coast Pilsner was a welcome surprise in this advent box -while they are a semi-local brewery, this is something from them that I hadn't tried before, and probably wouldn't have gone out of my way for (if we're being honest). It's certainly not a traditional pilsner in any sense whatsoever, but I still found its fruity flavour profile quite endearing - fans of IPLs will definitely want to give this a try, but I think most American lager lovers will appreciate it to some extent.
