An amber lager with a soft, smooth maltiness, toasty aroma and moderate bitterness, yet finishing relatively dry. 24 IBU

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 355mL in a pint glass. From their Lager Mix Six pack at my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My fifth beer from the London, Ontario brewery, and third for 2025.

355 mL can from the LCBO, included in Anderson's Lager Mix Six pack. Dated Feb 29 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours effervescent and relatively clear, its orange amber-hued body capped with one finger of bubbly khaki-coloured head that degrades within a couple of minutes. A frothy collar is left encircling a filmy cap, with lots of stringy lace deposition after a swirl of the glass. Toasted grains and lightly caramelized sugars on the nose, as well as hints of sourdough, digestive biscuit and grassiness.

It's plain, but mostly on-point for a Vienna lager - malt-forward without being overly sweet. Flavours of toasted grains, digestive biscuit and lightly caramelized sugars are discernible, with subtle notes of grassy, herbal noble hops developing on the back end. Finishes malty with dissipating honey-caramel sweetness, leading into a drying aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with average carbonation gently prickles the surface of the palate; feels smooth and goes down with effortless ease.

Final Grade: 3.7, a B grade. Anderson's Vienna Lager is a decent, if uninspiring take on this traditional style. Truth be told, Viennas are not a common selection for me - they basically come off as a lighter, drier märzen, and Anderson's is no exception. In theory I'd have no issues with drinking this lager again. However, in reality, Anderson packages most of their beers in sixers, and I rarely buy sixers of anything. I think it's worth a try if you appreciate the style, or German lagers in general.
