355 mL can from the LCBO, included in an Anderson mixed pack. Reviewed from notes taken last winter. Dated Sep 16 2024 and served barely chilled.
Pours a cloudy pale golden colour, fitted with an inch of foamy white head that has mostly disappeared by the two minute mark. A modest collar and a narrow ring of lace are left in its wake; looks like a typical hazy IPA. Pleasingly fragrant aroma, like a mandarin orange creamsicle with hints of guava, blackberry and fresh pineapple.
Unfortunately, this single hop IPA smells much better than it tastes. The mandarin orange does carry over, as does the vanilla/creamsicle note; there's also a firm, wheaty malt background flavour throughout the sip. Muddled tropical fruits on the back end - passion fruit & pineapple, as well as orange and Meyer lemon, leading into a slightly bitter, resiny, acidic aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with light carbonation and an exceptionally smooth, juicy mouthfeel that works well; reasonably drinkable, but two servings would be my max.
Final Grade: 3.88, a B+. Lotus Single Hop is an interesting pale ale, but I don't think it rises to the level of Anderson's flagship IPA. The hop profile is somewhere in between an orange creamsicle and a pina colada - I do think it's interesting, but at the end of the day, it's not all that tailored towards my preferences. Worth a try for sure; above average sampler pack fodder, and something I'd like to try again someday.

Pours an amber color. Lots of yeast floating around. Not much foam. Very minimal lacing.
Some citrous juice aromas.
Taste is moderate for an IPA. Not very bitter or piney. I'm getting a little bit of lemon from this one.
It's pretty easy to drink overall. Not too complex and worth a try.
