First visit to the brewery, did flights and got to taste just about everything on the menu and ordered this as the growler.
Appearance: Light amber glass shows good clarity but fails to hold a head.
Aroma: Ginger and an earthy hop note. A little hint of malt base pokes through.
Taste: The Ginger is heavy, hot and spicy. I love ginger and ginger beer, and this is pretty close to a Ginger beer. There is a beer base under it, malty, earthy hop, clean, but the Ginger is really heavy handed.
Mouthfeel: Hot, it burns a bit, medium body, low carbonation, oily texture.
Overall: Do you like ginger? Do you, REALLY like ginger? If so, you are in for a treat. I know there is rye here too and I get little tiny hints of it around the edges, but that's not the main flavor by far. Cheers to this Salado brewery putting out some big flavors.
