Move over Crème Brûlée and Apple Pie – dessert has a new look! We’ve teamed up once again with our friends of the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies to bring you a sweet, winter treat. Packed with cocoa nibs, vanilla and graham cracker extract, this is truly a liquid cookie in beer form. Notes of chocolate, sweet vanilla and molasses make way for a lingering, roasted coffee finish. Perfect for dessert on a chilly fall or winter evening.

Very disappointed, I really wanted to like this but did not end up finishing. The cookie dough flavor and scent is there but also there is a sucrose type flavor that is not my thing.

A-Jet black with a ruby red underlying hue. Mocha head that does linger
S-Sweet coconut is pronounced
M-Watery mouthfeel with lower end carbonation and a toxic chemical flavour additive essence
T-Artificial and painful to be honest. Coconut extract and not the good kind
O-No thank you. My mistake for thinking of anything other than what is was, an artificial extract thing.

473 ml can served cold into a tulip. Paired with Christmas Eve appetizers. LCBO purchase for about $3.75.

Appearance - Pours a very dark brown color and is topped with nearly a finger of light tan head.

Smell - General maltiness, hints of chocolate, very subdued, even as it warms.

Taste - Burnt malt, some chocolate and a prevailing sourness that is subdued but persistent. There might be a little smoke. Odd and not terribly inviting.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, carbonation is on the fizzier end.

Overall - Not sure if my tastebuds were shot or what, but this didn't remind me of cookies or cookie dough in any way other than a bit on the nose. Not a great porter /stout otherwise either. I will sample the second beer, to see if it was an off night, but otherwise less than impressed with the latest brew from the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies.

EDIT - Revisited about a week later, nope taste buds were just fine. Not as sour as reported above, but lacking flavor in general.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 19 2021 and served barely chilled.

Pours ebony black with deep reddish highlights when held to a light; seated atop is roughly one finger of foamy, tan-coloured head that dissipates within a couple of minutes. A thin collar is all that survives afterwards; there's no cap, and almost no lacing whatsoever. I must admit, it really does smell a lot like chocolate chip cookie dough - I'm getting both baker's and milk chocolate, as well as vanilla, brown sugar, doughy sweetness and just a touch of roastiness.

It smells better than it tastes, as the flavour profile contains some odd artificial undertones that I am not a big fan of. Hints of root beer at the forefront, which are soon overrun by notes of chocolate liquor, dark chocolate and brown sugar sweetness. The back end is where the cookie dough flavour really comes through, alongside hints of cocoa butter, graham cracker and vanilla extract; sweet-ish aftertaste with persisting chocolate and cookie dough flavours. Light in body, with low-ish carbonation that weakly nudges against the tongue; feels smooth, but also kind of thin. Fair drinkability, and theoretically sessionable, but do I really want to?

Final Grade: 3.51, squeaking out a B grade. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Porter is pretty far away from subtle, approaching downright cloying at times - a delicate balance is needed with these dessert-themed beers, and this one barely manages to thread the needle. I can forgive it for being kinda sugary, and its flavour/aroma does resemble what it's supposed to... but it also exudes an unshakeable "flavoured with extracts" vibe. That's not inherently bad in and of itself, but in this case I don't think it works very well - possibly because this is a rather light beer, and the extracts simply overpower everything else. Palatable enough to be worth a tick, if just for the experience.

Pours black coloured with a thin and whispy beige head. It actually smells somewhat like chocolate chip cookie dough. The flavour is muted in the taste dept. but it is quite a nice after dinner beer. Malty, chocolate and a bit smokey. Nice to try

Look: Pours black with a 1 1/2 finger tawny head. The head is tightly bubbled, and disappeared quickly leaving no lace.

Smell: Hints of sugary dough, and dark chocolate. I get a bit of hazelnut coffee hidden in there. It could use to be stronger and more upfront.

Taste: Hazelnut, and sugar. This reminds me of a single creme hazelnut coffee that has gone cold. I can pick up a bit of very cheap McDonald's type chocolate chip cookies, but it's nothing like the cookies Mom used to make.

Feel: Very flat with a sweet yet chalky aftertaste.

This is very disappointing. I've been impressed by most Hendersons offering and thier stout is fantastic. This is just blah. Given my love of dessert beers and porters I was excited to open this. So sad I can't give it more than a C.
