473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jun 9 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours hazy and translucent, its pale yellow-coloured body topped with half an inch of loose, bubbly white suds that fade within sixty seconds. It doesn't leave behind much in the way of lacing - merely a tight collar encircling a mostly barren surface. Enticing aromas of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, pine needles and peach.
Big citrus flavours: mostly tangerine, but I'm also getting lemon, lime and grapefruit pithiness. Hints of stone fruit and pine come shortly thereafter, with spicy, pithy hop bitterness on the back end; citrusy aftertaste that quickly fades to dry. Medium in body, with middling carbonation that feels a little prickly on the palate; very smooth, pillowy mouthfeel that makes this pale ale go down easy. It's good, but 'great' is a stretch.
Final Grade: 3.85, a B+. Henderson's Ring & Post is a decent hazy IPA, but this is a field crowded with plenty of strong competition, and I don't think this one manages to stand out. The citrus-heavy flavours and aromas are enjoyable, but it's relatively bitter for the style, and not particularly juicy. I'll drink this again at some point, probably when a fresh batch shows up.

Now known as Jack Paytons Ring and Post, I had to try this out as Jack often sat beside us for breakfast back in the day. Always respect someone who was up and about at 6:30 for a days work, especially a politician. And I've generally liked Henderson beer.
Poured a hazy canary yellow with minimal head.
The nose was intriguing likely the best part. Pine was strongly evident as was melon/grapefruit.
The taste was definitely on the bitter side, strong pine notes and some lime and grapefruit. Maybe something akin to pear as well. Very consistent flavor, but just did not feel well balanced. Lacked sweetness, or at least the bitterness overpowered it.
OK mouth feel, bitterness clouded the taste too fast.
Tastes like it would go with some marinated thinly sliced beef dish such as Korean beef or perhaps Philly cheese steak.
I definitely enjoyed this beer, it tasted more West Coast the North East but had nice elements of both. A bit more balance and it would be a great beer for my tastes.

473 ml can served cold into a chalice. LCBO purchase for around $3.75 CDN. Canned June 9, 2023.
Appearance - Hazy, yellowy brew with a finger of loose and rocky white head. Lots of visible carbonation and spotty lacing left behind.
Smell - Tropical notes, some orange and grapefruit and passionfruit with an undercurrent of peach.
Taste - Citrus all the way. Orange, grapefruit and even lemon, with lots of pith. Fairly bitter, so this is a little more old school IPA than New England style.
Mouthfeel - Medium full bodied, carbonation is above average in concentration and starts juicy but ends fairly dry.
Overall - Cromulent IPA, tasty enough and with good notes, but just another one in a sea of IPA's. Worth a try for a hybrid between West Coast and New England styles
