Poured from 750mL bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku.
Appearance: rich golden-orange hue with just a dash of haze and a thick head of frothy ivory foam atop.
Smell: malt aroma is light with perhaps a dash of pear character; what really comes through big-time in the aroma is the barrel. Very oaky, but I would say a lot more "neutral" than a whiskey barrel ... the gin takes an edge off that, which I actually think is kind of a good thing here.
Taste: relatively sweet flavor with a nice maltiness and some more of that pear character from the aroma. The oak is nice enough, although I think it would be better if pared back a little bit. I think the base tripel is pretty darn good, though.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a big carbonation and a creaminess that is good, although a bit ephemeral.
Overall: this is a pretty solid tripel, though I think I would like to try either just the base tripel or perhaps a version with some of the oak blended out. So, overall good, but not great (at least for my palate).
