Black color. Huge, beige head. Roasted malt, coffee, and caramel notes in the aroma. Smooth, moderately sweet taste with balancing roasted bitterness at the end.

Clear, dark mahogany pour, dark brown and nearly opaque in the glass; initially huge, loosely sudsy and frothy head, tan colored, fairly long-lasting, settles to a thick, dense and creamy texture. Rich dark grain scent; a bit of char; a bit of strawberry-like note. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; a bit of caramel; bolder esters; a barely perceptible sour tang. Heavy body; smooth and slippery offset with a bit of charred grain grittiness.

I didn't get much in the way of coffee or caramel with this beer, but it definitely leans towards the heavier sweet side of things. Upon reading that coconut was also included, I kind of get a sense of it now that I know to look for it.
