On tap at the Pickled Pig in Rehoboth DE. Poured a cloudy caramel color with a thin off-white head. Initial impression was sticky sweet, caramel dominant. I wouldn't call this an American Strong Ale - not enough hops, too sweet, too thick. (Rating is to my personal tastes, not to the style.) More like an Old Ale, IMHO, but still not among the best in that category. Finish is sweet but not cloying. I wouldn't turn it down if offered, but not the top of its class.

Had this at the brooklyn brewery tasting room. Awesome place but only neer i disnt enjoy didnt enjoy this beer. Very syrupy sweet and thick. I like the Belgian strong ale atyle but this was too sweet which masked any if the subtle spices it has. Caramel in color, hardly any carbonation, didn't experience the complexity of flavors found in better Belgians. Go with the local 2 which is a better strong ale Belgian from Brooklyn IMO.

On tap at original Rattle 'n Hum, New York City. Served in a tulip. This is a very fine brew and a surprise offering from Brooklyn Brewery. It pours a nice white head just short of 2 inches. A copper brown color, pretty much as expected. Mouth feel is what I'd call "medium"...not thick and syrupy but not thin like a session ale. The taste is caramel, maybe some dried fruit. Slight lacing as I empty the glass.
Long story short, this is delicious and I would certainly have this again if it presented itself. While this isn't a barley wine ale, which is my favorite style, it's definitely in that neck of the woods. If you like barley wines and stouts, this is surely worth a try. Yummy!!!
