750 ml bottle from 2016, drank from a wide rimmed Belgian beer glass on 03.19.20

Look - a little fizz out of the bottle but settled into a flat gold

Smell - apply and Belgiany

Taste - nice. I've never had the Local 1 but can only imagine what it tastes like based on this - a strong Belgian golden ale aged on wine - it really gave it a nice almost wild beer taste. Not at all bretty, but like a cross between a fruity strong golden ale and a strong saison, with any trace of bubble gum substituted for more of an apple like sweetness.

Feel - I no doubt held on to this too long as the carbonation was way low, but no matter - I struggled through it.

Overall - Really enjoyed this, would love to have had it fresh but so glad I got to try this variation of Local 1 while it was around, or after it was around...

Tart, tangy, fruity, spicy, bubbly and bright, the secret has been out for quite some time about Brooklyn's Local 1, Belgian-style stronger, golden ale. But its further maturation is pinot blanc wine barrels pulls out the playful acidity of the beer and rounds it with a highly elevated vinous taste.

Erupting from the bottle, the highly effervescent ale dives right into champaign impressions. Racing with a loose alignment of bubble, the sparkling golden beer carries a frothy and impatient foam stance. A tart and spicy aroma carries a bold scent of white wine along with the fruity and spicy perfume of light orchard fruit and citrus with soft woods and white pepper to tingle the nose. Its beautiful maltiness is elegant and soft with remnants of honey, confectioner's sweetness and fresh baking bread.

As the beer unfolds on the tongue, its sweetness slowly fades and the fruit flavors blossom. Apple, white grape, orange, pear and passionfruit carry an estery balance into a spicy balance of white pepper, clove, vanilla and oak spice. Its added layer of wine offers a spicy booze complement of bold grape and its own piquant zest.

Finishing lighter, crisper and highly refreshing, the medium bodied beer is lightened by the lift of carbonation that the bubbly ale pushes from the tongue and applies a minty cooling on the palate. Spicy with wood, the beer finishes warm and peppery with a medium length aftertaste of vinous fruit.
